1 Simple Habit That Changed My Life

Hint: You have to drink something

I drank.

And drank.

Until I couldn’t drink anymore.

Every day, my grandma would buy me a 2-Liter of Sprite, Coke, etc. Guess how long it took me to drink each bottle — two days. Three at the most.

I’d drink pop every chance I got with chili spaghetti, tacos, burgers, and other unhealthy shit that I should’ve stopped eating. The more I tried this combination, especially on Fridays, I’d get terrible acid reflux.

My food would be one bathroom break away from popping up again. In short — I had a caffeine addiction.

I had to force myself to drink water every day.

Like most people, I love flavor.

I never drunk water because I hate anything that doesn’t have taste. Heck, I’d even settle for Kool-Aid before I drank water.

“I’m surprised your pee isn’t acid”, my sister said.

So one day, I decided to try something new. I forced myself to drink a whole bottle of water. Just one. Then one eventually turned into two and two turned into three.

Fast forward to my freshman year of college and I started working out daily. Since I refuse to drink anything other than water in the gym, I bought a huge water bottle to take with me around campus.

Now I can’t go a day without drinking water and if I see a Sprite bottle anywhere, I give it so someone else.

Here are the benefits I’ve gotten from drinking at least 3 bottles of water a day:

I’m less jittery.

Pop always gave me that burst of energy I needed to get through my day. Unfortunately, it just made me a cranky caffeine junky who got sugar rushes almost every week.

My grandma would have to calm me down because my body would be overtaken with the jitters like I was having an exorcism. Sugar rushes are no joke, seriously, I felt like I’d die.

No more stress headaches.

Almost every day before I went to class in college, my stress levels would go through the roof. Headaches would kick in and I had to take a few naps throughout the day to get my bearings together.

My test scores would come back as C’s because I could barely focus on an exam with my head pounding.

It’s the sole reason why I’m able to have a steady flow of work each day.

If I didn’t drink water every day, all of my time would be used inefficiently.

The only reason why I can go to the gym so much is because I drink a bottle of water before I go and a bottle of water during my workout. The only reason why I can study longer is because I have a bottle of water in my backpack keeping me hydrated. The only reason why I’m able to write this article is because there’s a bottle of water on the table right next to me and I just took a sip.

I’m able to get more things done because I have a bottle of water next to me at all times.

I buy huge packs of water from my campus grocery store.

I make an effort every day to put water bottles near my desk, in my backpack, near my bed — everywhere.

If water is the only thing you see, you’ll start to drink it even more.

Who knew that drinking water comes down to Feng Shui?

Now I have to force myself to drink soda. I’ll still drink it occasionally, but now water is an essential for me. It’s an underrated secret of a healthy life.

Don’t take water for granted. You never know if you’re one water bottle away from brightening up your day.
