1 perfect prompt to make AI write in your style
Be authentic with the DIY Tone of Voice for text generators
Two of the top requests about ChatGPT and other AI text generators are:
- I want it to stop sounding robotic
- I want my AI generator to sound like me
We’re all familiar with robotic, cliche AI text that sounds fake (I’ve written an article on avoiding these traps). But the second point is also important: often you need AI-generated content to emulate your unique writing style, especially if you’re a student or a business with a distinctive brand voice.
You could go the route of training data. But that’s time-consuming and convoluted. Instead, I’m going to give you my easy 1 prompt solution.
Extracting tone of voice/writing style from a text
We all know we can ask AI to write in a particular style (or to mimic an expert or well-known person). But it can be hard to describe our tone of voice objectively. It’s the classic conundrum that people face when filling out online dating profiles: “Don’t make me describe myself”. Awkward!
Thankfully, AI isn’t just about generative text; it’s also useful for analyzing.
So we can put in sample writing and ask the AI to extract the descriptors.
I’ve put the prompt below, but first some quick context for where I got it:
Why authentic AI writing is important to me
I’ve actually been a Tone of Voice expert since 2021. I first wrote a Recipe (prompt chain) called Mimic for Jasper AI. This has been used 1.5K times, and is the basis for the official Jasper AI Tone of Voice Detector template:
Jasper AI now has an impressive Brand Voice feature, which I’ve been able to reverse-engineer to its initial prompts for you by using prompt injection. While Mimic is still fun, this newer version is more accurate and advanced.
My reverse-engineered Brand Voice prompt works pretty much the same as the proprietary version (except Jasper AI uses a lower Temperature setting, or Top-P). All this means is that the official version has consistent results (you’ll get the same results each time you run it) while mine has a bit of variety. This can be a good thing; rerun it until you get a result you like!
Jailbreaking Jasper Brand Voice is a bit of a cheeky Robin Hood move. But being able to have AI authentically replicate your own voice is something that is very close to my heart. Not only is it essential for individuals and students, but it’s at the core of using AI for human-centric accessibility.
Everyone wants to be heard and recognized. AI can help us with that.
Running the Tone of Voice One-Shot Prompt
It’s easy. Just copy this command:
Based on the tone and writing style in the seed text, create a style guide for a blog or publication that captures the essence of the seed’s tone. Emphasize engaging techniques that help readers feel connected to the content.
Beneath this, type “SEED TEXT” and then enter your example.
If you’re using ChatGPT, there’s an input limit of approximately 4000 characters/500 words, so you should be able to enter a 460-word text.
The output will describe exactly what you need to tell ChatGPT to write in your style. You can either continue the conversation (“Write an article on X in the style described above”) or copy the result and save it to use later. Just add the prompt to your next project (“Write a blog on X in a style that is…”).

If you’re a solo-operator or student, my prompt is enough to get by on. You’re using free software—so you can afford to spend time tinkering!
