Chapter 4 — Measuring Wealth In Terms of What We Don’t Have（第四章：用我们没有的东西来衡量财富的拥有）

在这一章拉比邦德又一次强调了不能因为创造财富而制造匮乏。他说 — —

One of our greatest concerns in the business world is to avoid creating “anti-wealth”…… it is our duty, if we wish to “become rich,” to increase the quality of life in the cosmos. If, however, in the process of transforming elements into abundance, we create some kind of scarcity, we are creating anti-wealth.

在商业世界里我们最关心的问题之一就是避免制造“反财富”……希望以“致富”而提高我们在这个世界的生活质量是我们的责任。但是，如果在致富的过程中，我们造成了（他人）的匮乏，那么我们就是在制作“反财富”。

而“反财富”引起腐败，“反财富”增加人与人之间的不平等不公平。

邦德给我们讲了一个故事 — — 有一位拉比在路上遇见了一位小时候的朋友，这位朋友长大后变得非常富有却毫无富人的社会责任感。当他们再次相遇时，这位富翁邀请拉比去他富丽堂皇的住宅参观。拉比在朋友的住处一边冷眼旁观他的奢侈豪华一边问他：“请告诉我…你在这个世界上拥有什么？” 朋友反问：“看看你身处的地方，你难道看不出我有多么富裕吗？”

“不，” 拉比回答道 — — “they’re your rewards taken from ‘other world,’ which you will lack in the world-to-come. What I would like to know is where your portion of wealth of this world is — 这些财富是你从‘另一个世界’获得的奖励，而你在未来的世界中将不再有这些奖励。我想知道的是，在当下的这个世界上，你的财富在哪里。”

邦德以这个故事为引子，告诉读者为什么我们必须用我们在这个世界上所没有的东西来衡量我们对财富的拥有。他写道 — —

We often fail to pay attention to what account we are “withdrawing” from. And we fail to realize that the less we transform into material goods of our portion in other dimensions, the better. Only then will we possess the true measure of our livelihood, without using up our reserves from other worlds. One could even say that our true wealth is measured in terms of what we don’t have…… It is wiser to leave riches in the form in which they have been bestowed to us.

我们往往不去注意我们是从哪个账户里不断“提款”的，我们没有意识到其实我们从自己另外空间里转化的物质财富越少越好。因为只有这样，我们才能做到不仅维持好我们的生计而且不去耗尽来自我们其它世界的储备。所以我们甚至可以说，我们应该用我们在这个世界上所没有的东西来衡量我们对财富的拥有……更明智的做法是让财富保持其被赋予我们的形式。

邦德将这种“让财富保持其被赋予我们的形式”看作“internal ecology — 内部生态学”，他说“This internal ecology is essential.”

读到这里，我想很多人，包括我自己，可能会有这样的想法 — — “其它世界”？我要过好的是当下，当下的世界！不是吗？

那么再来读一读邦德接下来的一段话 — —

If this doesn’t seem real to you, think of all the resources the Market must invest in order to deal with the depression, self-destructiveness, emotional poverty, boredom, and lack of meaning brought about by poor management of our resources in the different worlds. If we would only save up our emotional, spiritual, and transcendental energies, this Market would be in better shape, may even reaching the ideal conditions of the messianic age.

如果上面阐述的对你来说似乎不真实，那么请想一想我们用在应对抑郁、自我毁灭、情感贫困、无聊和缺乏意义等等上的所有资源吧，而这些不都是因为我们没有管理好我们在其它世界里的资源而引起的吗！如果我们能储存我们的情感、精神和超能量，那么我们的当下世界就会处于更好的状态，甚至可能达到弥赛亚时代的理想状态。

我想，我大致明白了邦德所要表达的，那么剩下的问题是什么呢？邦德说 — —

The question that remains is: how can we avoid depleting resources in only one dimension of wealth? …… Ideally, we should become rich without having more…… 剩下的问题是：我们应该如何避免仅在财富的某一维度耗尽我们所有的资源？ …… 理想的状况是，我们应该变得富有，但不要拥有更多……
